چکیده

Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is a promising solution for all optical Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks. It combines the benefits of both Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Circuit Switching (OCS). In this switching, data are transmitted in the form of bursts. Fairness is the main constraint in high-performance OBS network. In order to improve the fairness, a method known as hop-based burst-cluster transmission is used. In this method, bursts are assembled from smallest to largest number of hops, and transmitted along with the control packets, that are used to reserve the wavelengths. Bursts with larger number of hops have more chances of wavelength reservation than those with smaller number of hops. This results in the decrease of overall burst loss probability and fairness is also improved. Finally the performance of hop based burst-cluster transmission for 14-node NSFNET is evaluated. Keywords— OBS, Fairness Improvement, Burst Loss Probability, Wavelength Division Multiplexing.

Enhancing the Quality of Service for Real Time Traffic over Optical Burst Switching (OBS) Networks with Ensuring the Fairness for Other Traffics

Optical burst switching (OBS) networks have been attracting much consideration as a promising approach to build the next generation optical Internet. A solution for enhancing the Quality of Service (QoS) for high priority real time traffic over OBS with the fairness among the traffic types is absent in current OBS' QoS schemes. In this paper we present a novel Real Time Quality of Service with ...

Fairness Provisioning in Optical Burst Switching Networks

Optical burst switching (OBS) is a promising switching technology for next-generation Internet backbone networks. The main objectives of the dissertation was to provide fairness from various aspects, including rate and distance fairness, to OBS networks without degrading the loss probability or throughput. This dissertation proposes a rate fairness preemption (RFP) scheme to achieve max-min fai...

A New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions

Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...

Provision of End-to-End Delay Guarantees in Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Networks

In Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Networks (WR-OBS), lightpaths are dynamically established for the transmission of bursts (aggregation of packets in edge routers) through a bufferless optical core. In this paper, we show how WR-OBS can provide end-to-end delay guarantees, and introduce methods to achieve fairness in the network. The conditions under which WR-OBS bring operational adv...

Intermediate-Hop Preemption to Improve Fairness in Optical Burst Switching Networks

In optical burst switching (OBS) networks, burst with different numbers of hops experience unfairness in terms of the burst loss probability. In this paper, we propose a preemptive scheme based on the number of transit hops in OBS networks. In our proposed scheme, preemption is performed with two thresholds; one is for the total number of hops of a burst and the other is for the number of trans...
